Switching from WP Overnight PDF Invoices to Asteris for WooCommerce

WP Overnight was acquired by UpdraftPlus in July 2023. Their PDF Invoices & Packing Slips plugin is now under UpdraftPlus’s stewardship — a larger, primarily-backup-focused company.

If you prefer to keep your PDF invoice plugin under indie ownership, Asteris for WooCommerce is the alternative. If you’re happy with UpdraftPlus owning the product, staying on WP Overnight is perfectly fine — it still works.

What changed after the acquisition

The WP Overnight plugin continues to function. UpdraftPlus has maintained it. The practical changes: the support team is now UpdraftPlus’s team, the roadmap is UpdraftPlus’s roadmap, and the pricing is now managed by UpdraftPlus.

Asteris for WooCommerce’s PDF Invoices module is maintained by one person in Sydney who uses it on real WooCommerce stores.

Migration

Asteris for WooCommerce doesn’t migrate historical PDF invoice files — those remain as-is in your WooCommerce orders (they were generated by WP Overnight and are stored in your media library). The Asteris for WooCommerce PDF module takes over for new orders from the point of activation.

Invoice templates: if you’ve customised WP Overnight templates, you’ll need to rebuild in Asteris for WooCommerce’s template system (paid tiers).
